A groundbreaking undersea tunnel project in China is set to revolutionize travel between the cities of Dalian and Yantai, reducing the current eight-hour journey to just 40 minutes. The ambitious Bohai Strait Tunnel, with an estimated £20 billion budget, will span 123km (76 miles) and incorporate advanced earthquake-resistant technology to ensure safety. The design includes longitudinal ventilation shafts for air quality control and numerous emergency refuge areas for evacuation in case of emergencies.
The tunnel will surpass existing undersea tunnels like the Channel Tunnel and the Seikan Tunnel in length, featuring trains that will operate at speeds exceeding 150mph, significantly cutting travel time between the two cities.
