An ex-police officer with a disturbing fascination for notorious criminals like Jack the Ripper and the Moors Murderers has been sentenced to prison once more for sharing his violent fantasies about raping and killing women and girls online.
Brian Darby, aged 80, was previously imprisoned for life in 2002 for attempting to carry out his murderous intentions by targeting potential victims and breaking into a woman’s home with the intent to harm her. Despite his admission of wanting to commit extreme acts of evil, he was released on parole in 2017.
Shortly after his release, Darby engaged in viewing inappropriate images of children online. His criminal activities resurfaced in February this year when he was apprehended for producing and circulating indecent images of children generated using artificial intelligence.
Subsequent investigations revealed a trail of disturbing online conversations where Darby expressed graphic fantasies of rape and murder, including a chilling scenario of strangling his wife in front of family members. The court also heard his disturbing views on the treatment of women and girls.
In sentencing Darby to four years in prison, Judge John Law emphasized the gravity of his offenses and the risk he poses to society. The judge noted Darby’s long history of violent and sexually deviant behavior, dating back to his dismissal from the police force for indecent assault in the 1970s.
Darby’s dark inclinations were further exposed through his association with a young girl named Jeannette White, leading to their joint involvement in criminal activities involving planned murder and violence. This partnership culminated in their conviction for conspiracy to murder in 2001.
Despite Darby’s remorse and attempts to attribute his actions to addiction, the court underscored the severity of his crimes and the need for stringent measures to protect the public. Darby’s sentence includes a period of confinement followed by strict supervision upon release, with the Parole Board tasked with evaluating his suitability for freedom.
Darby’s reprehensible conduct has been condemned by law enforcement authorities, with Detective Inspector Andy Cook emphasizing the seriousness of such offenses and the commitment to holding perpetrators accountable.
The case underscores the importance of vigilance in combating online exploitation and safeguarding vulnerable individuals from harm.
