A 93-year-old man, defenseless and near death, revealed his attacker’s identity in his final moments after enduring a brutal 28-hour torture session, a court has disclosed. Martin Glynn succumbed to his injuries months after allegedly being assaulted by Sam Field, who reportedly filmed the vicious attack on the elderly man at his residence in Desborough, Northamptonshire in September 2024.

When authorities arrived at the scene, they found Mr. Glynn left in a shower tray following the “savage and senseless” assault. He later passed away in Kettering General Hospital on December 26 due to brain bleeds and neck fractures. During the trial at Northampton Crown Court, it was revealed that Mr. Glynn used his dying breath to recount Field’s violent actions and the extortion of thousands of pounds from him.

According to the prosecution, Mr. Glynn visited Field’s home, where Field, under the influence of cannabis and sleep-deprived, launched a prolonged and vicious attack, forcing Mr. Glynn to make false confessions. Field delayed seeking medical help for the victim to evade responsibility.

Medical examinations showed extensive bruising, broken bones, and brain hemorrhages on Mr. Glynn’s body, leading to his inability to speak. In his final communication with Detective Sergeant Lee Bergin, Mr. Glynn implicated Field as his assailant, detailing how he had been coerced into giving money to Field, who had a history of tormenting and blackmailing him.

The court also learned about financial transactions between the two individuals, including numerous cash withdrawals by Mr. Glynn totaling £21,780 leading up to his death. Additionally, forensic evidence found blood matching Mr. Glynn’s DNA at the crime scene, further linking Field to the assault.

The trial is ongoing.
