EasyJet has rejected a potential acquisition offer from a prominent US investment entity, labeling it as “highly opportunistic” and clarifying that there have been no talks between the two parties.

The low-cost carrier mentioned that Castlelake’s interest arose as its stock faced pressure due to concerns regarding the impact of the Iran conflict on fuel prices and travel demand.

Castlelake disclosed on Friday, after the close of trading in London, that it was in the initial phases of evaluating a bid for easyJet in response to recent speculations.

The company emphasized that no formal approach had been made to easyJet’s Board, cautioning that there was no guarantee that a bid would materialize.

Complying with takeover regulations, Castlelake has until June 26 to announce a definite intention to make an offer or withdraw from the process.

EasyJet stated on Monday that no discussions or proposals had been received from Castlelake, highlighting the opportunistic timing coinciding with the airline’s temporarily depressed share price due to current geopolitical tensions and their impact on consumer confidence and fuel costs.

Based in Luton, easyJet also acknowledged the significant challenges related to regulatory, financial, and operational aspects involved in a potential acquisition of the company.

The airline recently reported losses of £552 million for the first half of its fiscal year, a 40% rise compared to the previous year, but noted strong demand for summer vacations, with travelers opting for last-minute bookings.

Mr. Jarvis noted robust demand in the last-minute market, observing strong booking trends in April and expecting this trend to continue through the summer months.
