A significant drone attack targeted Moscow in the early hours of Sunday, as confirmed by local officials. Social media images captured explosions in various parts of the Russian capital and nearby areas, including an oil refinery.

Reports indicate that the drone strike resulted in at least three fatalities and 12 injuries in the Moscow region. Governor Andrei Vorobyov mentioned two deaths in Pogorelki village and one in Khimki, located to the north of Moscow.

Damage was also reported to multiple residential buildings and essential facilities in the region. Operations at all four Moscow airports were disrupted following the attack that occurred late Saturday.

The incident in Moscow is believed to be part of a larger coordinated assault, with the Russian Defence Ministry revealing that more than 550 drones were intercepted nationwide.

Mayor Sergey Sobyanin assured that the technology at Moscow’s oil refinery remained intact despite the attack. However, the workforce was impacted by the disruption.

Although Russian authorities have pointed fingers at Ukraine for the assault, Ukraine has not taken responsibility for the incident.
