More than a dozen individuals lost their lives in a tragic accident when a pickup truck carrying wedding guests was caught between two large trucks on a bustling motorway in Indonesia. The incident, which occurred on Indonesia’s primary island of Java, resulted in the death of 13 people and left five others injured.
The collision took place on a Sunday afternoon, July 12, along the northern coastal highway close to Kiajaran Kulon village in the Indramayu regency. The group had been returning from a wedding in the neighboring Parean village when the devastating crash occurred, according to local traffic police chief Undang Syarif Hidayat.
The victims were riding in an open-bed pickup truck that had slowed down near a gap in the central reservation to execute a U-turn on the motorway. Subsequently, a wing-box truck traveling in the same direction rear-ended the pickup truck, pushing it into the opposite lane where it was struck by another truck. The force of the impact ejected over a dozen individuals from the pickup onto the highway.
Authorities reported that five survivors are currently receiving medical treatment, with injuries varying from minor to severe. An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the tragic accident.
Fatal traffic incidents are a frequent occurrence in Indonesia, with factors such as overloaded vehicles, insufficient road safety measures, and poor adherence to traffic regulations often contributing to the high number of deadly crashes.
