In the aftermath of last summer’s devastating wildfires, the Town of Small Point-Broad Cove-Blackhead-Adam’s Cove is set to see a greener landscape with the donation of over 450 trees by a couple from Codroy Valley. Harrison Bragg and Judy Warren, who are winding down their nursery business, embarked on a journey to Conception Bay North to distribute the trees to the community, driven by a desire to assist those who suffered losses.

Despite facing a seven-hour delay due to a vehicle accident on the Trans-Canada highway, the couple persevered and arrived late on the north shore, opting to spend the night in their truck. The following day, with the help of a Facebook post from the town, a gathering point was arranged, and locals eagerly gathered to collect the trees. Bragg expressed joy at witnessing the community’s happiness and eagerness to learn about tree planting.

Warren shared touching encounters with residents, including a woman who lost her entire garden in the fires and expressed gratitude with multiple hugs. Stories also emerged about plans to involve students in replanting cedars near the school, reflecting the community’s resilience and unity. The couple estimated the value of the donated trees at nearly $9,000.

Mayor Curtis Delaney of Small Point-Broad Cove-Blackhead-Adam’s Cove expressed deep gratitude for Bragg and Warren’s donation, emphasizing the emotional impact beyond the physical trees. Bragg revealed intentions to send thousands of seeds next summer to further support the community’s reforestation efforts, emphasizing their commitment to restoring the area.
