Blackpool has been identified as the city with the highest rate of violent crimes in the UK, earning it the title of the violent crime capital of Britain. Official police data revealed that nearly 69 violent crimes were reported per 1,000 residents in the town last year, indicating that about one in every 20 individuals experienced such incidents. This statistic significantly surpassed other locations, with Westminster and Bradford following closely, both reporting rates exceeding 53 per 1,000 residents.

Additionally, Middlesbrough and Manchester also recorded rates surpassing 50 per 1,000, underscoring the prevalence of violent crimes in major urban centers. Blackpool alone reported over 3,100 violent offenses resulting in injuries, along with more than 4,000 incidents where no injuries were documented. Furthermore, the town logged approximately 2,700 cases of stalking and harassment, contributing to its overall violent crime figures.

Conversely, Buckinghamshire exhibited a starkly lower rate of 14.3 offenses per 1,000 residents, standing at less than a quarter of Blackpool’s rate. Other regions with relatively low violence levels included Waverley (14.6), Wokingham (14.7), Richmond-on-Thames (14.9), and the Isles of Scilly (15.2).

Addressing the concerning statistics, Clive Grunshaw, Lancashire’s Police and Crime Commissioner, emphasized the detrimental impact of serious violence on individuals and communities. He stressed the necessity for a comprehensive societal approach involving law enforcement, the criminal justice system, healthcare services, and local authorities to combat violent crimes effectively.

Notably, Blackpool grapples with significant poverty rates, with nearly 40% of its neighborhoods classified as the most deprived in England. The town faces multiple challenges, including high unemployment rates, strained healthcare infrastructure, and the lowest life expectancy nationwide.

Similarly, Bradford also contends with severe poverty and deprivation, ranking among the top 15 most deprived local authorities in England, with almost half of children under 16 living in relative poverty.

A spokesperson for Lancashire Police reiterated their commitment to curbing and preventing crime across the county, particularly in Blackpool. They assured the public that dedicated policing teams are actively engaged in multiple facets of law enforcement, such as community engagement, rapid response units, and investigative services, to ensure residents’ safety and reduce criminal activities.
