A man tragically lost his life after falling from a rooftop bar in Birmingham. Identified as Richard Ayling, a beloved father who had been married for less than a year, he passed away at Queen Elizabeth Hospital a day following the incident at Henman and Cooper bar on Colmore Row on May 3.

Richard Ayling, aged 40, was employed in the rail industry and served as a part-time firefighter and former soldier. The Birmingham Live reported on his background. An inquest into his death was initiated and postponed at Birmingham Coroner’s Court today.

His wife, Amy, paid tribute to him on Facebook, sharing a video montage of the couple. She expressed her profound grief, stating, “A week ago today, my entire world changed forever. Every moment without you feels burdensome, and the pain remains raw. I miss you, hubby… more than words can convey.”

In another online homage, Richard Ayling was described as a “top bloke and outstanding soldier” who had recently tied the knot and retired from the fire service.

A GoFundMe initiative was launched to assist the family and cover funeral expenses, garnering over £14,600. Duncan Watson, the fundraiser organizer, highlighted Ayling’s devotion as a father and his commitment to serving and safeguarding others. Ayling’s extensive experience in the rail sector and his courageous efforts as a part-time firefighter were praised, emphasizing his dedication to his community’s safety.

The fundraiser organizer stated, “His absence has left a void in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. He was a proud and devoted dad, and his family was his top priority in all aspects of his life. Richard was a trusted and respected professional in the rail industry, with over 20 years of experience. As a part-time firefighter, he selflessly dedicated his time and bravery to ensure the well-being of his community. He was always there for others, whether in his professional role or daily life. At only 40 years old, his departure is deeply felt and tragically premature.”
