Anna Huang’s participation in the CPKC Women’s Open marked a significant moment in her golf journey. At 16, she failed to make the cut in Mississauga, Ontario, feeling lost and struggling with her game. While her compatriot Brooke Henderson triumphed, Huang dedicated herself to practice, particularly focusing on her putting skills with coach Sean Burke.

The intensive work paid off as Huang clinched consecutive victories on the Ladies European Tour shortly after the tournament in Mississauga. Her win in the PIF London Championship on August 9 made history, making her the youngest player to secure four LET titles at just 17 years, 9 months, and 10 days old, surpassing Lydia Ko’s previous record.

Returning to the CPKC Women’s Open this year, Huang exudes confidence, reflecting on her growth and experience since her rookie year. The upcoming $2.75 million US tournament at Edmonton’s Royal Mayfair Golf Club features a new generation of Canadian talent like Calgary’s Aphrodite Deng, who impressed in the previous year’s event.

Deng, committed to Stanford University, has already achieved remarkable feats in the golfing world, setting high standards for young players in Canada. Alongside Huang and Deng, 16-year-old Clairey Lin from Langley, British Columbia, has also earned a sponsor exemption, adding to the pool of promising Canadian golfers.

The emergence of these talented young players has garnered attention and praise, with Golf Canada’s NextGen coach Jeff MacDonald acknowledging the unprecedented success and achievements of the Canadian golfing contingent. Huang’s journey, from initial struggles to historic victories, exemplifies the dedication and talent of the new wave of Canadian golfers making their mark on the international stage.
