In a recent newsletter, Fortune shared her excitement about purchasing a cottage by a lake near Barry’s Bay, fulfilling a long-held dream since her family home’s sale. The protagonist of “Only in Summer,” Eleanor Florek, known as Ellie, shares this dream, reminiscent of Fortune’s characters Charlie and Sam from her earlier Barry’s Bay tales. Ellie, having grown up in Barry’s Bay, saves up to buy a property there, only to find out that her neighbor’s old house is being torn down to make way for a new mansion.
While Fortune has kept further plot details under wraps, one can anticipate a compelling romantic narrative unfolding in the picturesque lakeside setting. Fortune, a writer and journalist based in Toronto, brings a wealth of editorial experience from Refinery29, The Globe and Mail, Chatelaine, and Toronto Life.
