Canadian runner Marco Arop clinched the fourth position at the recent Diamond League track and field event held in Lausanne, Switzerland, at Stade Olympique de la Pontaise. Arop set a quick pace and led the pack into the final lap, but could not sustain the speed, finishing just shy of a podium spot with a time of 1:43.18.

The race was won by Kenya’s Emmanuel Wanyonyi in 1:42.19, with Algeria’s Djamel Sedjati securing second place with a season-best time of 1:42.31. American Brandon Miller claimed the third spot, clocking in at 1:42.55.

Last year, Arop and shot putter Sarah Mitton were the only Canadians to make it to the Diamond League Final in Zurich, where they both finished third. Arop was ranked second in the men’s 800m Diamond League standings before the recent race, trailing behind Kenya’s Emmanuel Wanyonyi. Although Arop had not yet guaranteed his spot in the Final, his standing in the rankings positioned him well to qualify.

The Wanda Diamond League Final for 2026 is scheduled to be held on September 4–5 in Brussels, Belgium.

In the women’s category, American sprinter Kayla White secured victory in the 200m race with a time of 22.18 seconds. Great Britain’s Amy Hunt narrowly beat Nigeria’s Favour Ofili in a close race for the second and third positions, both finishing with a time of 22.32 seconds. Unfortunately, two-time women’s world champion Shericka Jackson from Jamaica had to pull out due to an injury and was assisted off the track in a wheelchair.

Up next is the men’s 200m race, featuring reigning Olympic champion Letsile Tebogo from Botswana.
