A family residing in Squamish, British Columbia, narrowly avoided a construction mishap in the 1800 block of Hamilton Street, expressing relief at their escape. Claire Johnstone, along with her young son, was in the process of loading him into their car when a scaffold suddenly collapsed next to their vehicle on August 11. The loud crash startled Johnstone, who quickly realized the danger and urged her husband, who was behind the wheel, to move away from the building.

The car, equipped with a glass roof, was struck by metal and debris from the falling structure, prompting a frantic reaction from everyone inside, including Johnstone’s mother and partner. After parking the car and assessing the situation, they witnessed two men injured in the workplace accident and promptly sought help from passersby to call emergency services.

Following the incident, the block of Hamilton Street was closed for investigation by the police and occupational health and safety authorities. Despite needing to rush their son, Theo, to the hospital for a check-up, Johnstone and her family departed the scene. At the hospital, they reviewed the footage from their Tesla, shocked to see how close they came to being struck by the debris.

Reflecting on the harrowing experience, Johnstone expressed her emotional turmoil, realizing how narrowly they escaped a tragic outcome. She contemplated the what-ifs and acknowledged the randomness of the event, feeling grateful for their safety. The incident left a profound impact on Johnstone, causing sleepless nights and a sense of unease.

Despite the damage sustained by their car, Johnstone considered themselves fortunate that no one was seriously harmed. The incident served as a stark reminder of the fragility of life, prompting Johnstone to value the time spent with her son even more, grateful for the moments shared with him.
