A tragic incident occurred on the Costa Brava when a tourist lost his life after a collision between a boat carrying up to 12 individuals and the jet ski he was riding with his son in Roses, Girona. The man on the jet ski tragically passed away due to the crash, leading to the arrest of the boat’s driver for suspected reckless homicide. The deceased individual, a 54-year-old French national, was riding with his son, while the boat’s driver, also French, is 52 years old.
The collision took place around 4:45 pm near Santa Margarida, with reports indicating that the boat, carrying between eight to 12 passengers, struck the jet ski. Following the incident, a swift response was initiated with the arrival of numerous emergency services including Maritime Rescue teams, paramedics, air ambulance, ground ambulances, local police, and Spain’s Civil Guard.
Rescuers swiftly located the jet ski and administered CPR to the injured man on board the boat before transferring him to shore via a rescue vessel. Despite efforts by paramedics, the man succumbed to his injuries, while his son and the occupants of the boat remained unharmed.
An investigation into the fatal collision is ongoing, led by the Judicial Police Unit of the Civil Guard of the Girona Command. Statements have been obtained from the individuals on the recreational boat and the victim’s son. Additionally, breath and drug tests are being conducted on all parties involved, including the boat’s crew members and the deceased man’s son who was on the jet ski.
