A 16-year-old teenager tragically passed away after collapsing during a football final match. Aoibheann Clarke, 16, received CPR on the field while participating in the Girls Minor Division 6 Shield Gaelic football final in Taghmon, Ireland. Despite immediate medical attention and being rushed to the hospital by ambulance, she succumbed shortly after the incident.
According to eyewitnesses, the attention of spectators was initially focused on an on-field altercation between two players during extra time, until concerns were raised about the teenager’s health at the opposite end of the pitch. Several individuals rushed onto the field to provide assistance, and Aoibheann was reported to have regained consciousness after several minutes of resuscitation efforts.
Her father, who was serving as a linesman during the game, was also present at the tragic event. Emergency services, including paramedics, police, fire crews, and an air ambulance, responded promptly to the scene. The match was abandoned, and her teammates stayed behind at the club awaiting updates before being informed of her passing at the hospital.
The young footballer had no known underlying health issues. In a statement, her club Taghmon Camross expressed gratitude to all those who responded swiftly and compassionately to the emergency. They extended their thanks to the spectators, first responders, ambulance service, law enforcement, and fire department for their professionalism and support.
Aoibheann, a talented footballer, had also played for All Blacks AFC and Wexford FC. Prior to her tragic demise, she had contributed to Wexford FC’s victory in the Football Association of Ireland’s Women’s U19 Inter-League competition.
Local sports club Wexford Camogie paid tribute to Aoibheann on Facebook, expressing sadness over her untimely passing and offering condolences to her family, friends, teammates, and the community. They acknowledged the impact of the incident on other clubs and individuals involved, emphasizing the lasting memory of the young player’s spirit in every game played.
