The Met Office has issued an extended weather warning for thunderstorms, with the yellow level alert for Northern Ireland now in effect from 9.15am to 9pm, starting earlier than initially scheduled. The warning predicts potential floods, lightning, and hail in the affected areas, with up to 30mm of rain expected to fall within a two-hour period.

According to the national weather agency, the Met Office, there is a likelihood of flooding to homes and businesses, potentially causing damage to buildings. Driving conditions may be impacted by spray, standing water, and hail, resulting in longer travel times. The agency also warns of possible train service delays, building damage from lightning strikes, and potential power outages.

The Met Office advises residents in flood-prone areas to prepare a flood plan and emergency kit and be ready for power disruptions. They emphasize the importance of planning ahead for power cuts by gathering essential items such as torches, batteries, and mobile phone chargers. In case of lightning, individuals are urged to seek shelter in enclosed structures, avoiding trees and elevated areas.
