The Met Office has issued a thunderstorm alert for six counties scheduled for Tuesday. This warning applies to Northern Ireland from midday until 9pm, advising residents in flood-prone areas to ready a “flood plan and an emergency flood kit.”
Expected outcomes include potential flooding in some homes and businesses, impacting driving conditions with spray, standing water, or hail, leading to longer travel times by car and bus. Train services may experience delays, while lightning strikes could cause damage to structures and buildings, potentially resulting in brief power outages.
Northern Ireland could receive up to 30mm of rainfall within a two-hour period the following day, accompanied by strong winds, gusts, and hail during heavy showers. Besides preparing for potential floods, individuals are encouraged to prepare for power outages by gathering essential items like torches, batteries, a mobile phone power pack, and other necessities.
Despite high temperatures persisting across the majority of the country today, the warning remains in effect. London is expected to reach 34C, with 32C in the Midlands, 29C in the north-west, and 27C in Cardiff. Cooler temperatures are anticipated in Northern Ireland and Scotland, with projected highs of 21C in both Belfast and Glasgow.
