The family of a young boy who was thrown off a viewing platform at the Tate Modern art gallery has shared that he has been discharged from the hospital with a renewed smile on his face.
The incident occurred in 2019 when the French boy, then six years old, was gravely injured in the attack by Jonty Bravery, a teenager, at the London art gallery. Despite surviving a 100ft fall, the boy sustained life-altering injuries, including a brain bleed and multiple fractures.
After nearly seven years, the family affectionately refers to him as “notre petit chevalier” (our little knight) and provided an update on a GoFundMe page, announcing his return to school before the summer break. They expressed joy that tailored lessons helped him reconnect with classmates, bringing happiness back to his face.
Following a setback earlier in his recovery journey, the family’s recent update is filled with positivity. A crowdfunding campaign initiated by nurse Vicky Diplacto has raised over £500,000 to support the boy’s medical expenses.
The young boy is currently undergoing intensive rehabilitation involving physiotherapy, speech therapy, and neuropsychology. To mark the end of his hospital care, his family has planned a tandem paragliding experience and a seaside retreat with friends.
In addition, he will resume adaptive swimming lessons and receive math tutoring to bridge any educational gaps. The family looks forward to a busy but rejuvenating summer, aiming to establish a sense of normalcy before the upcoming school year.
Meanwhile, Bravery, now 24, who carried out the attack, has been serving a life sentence with a minimum of 15 years for attempted murder. Recently, he faced jail time for assaulting nurses at Broadmoor psychiatric hospital.
