Richard Tice is currently being investigated by the standards commissioner for allegedly failing to disclose a potential conflict of interest. The deputy leader of Reform UK is facing scrutiny while his superior, Nigel Farage, deals with increasing pressure regarding his financial affairs.

The investigation into Tice revolves around his supposed omission of an interest related to Israel during discussions on antisemitism in Westminster hall. This inquiry was initiated on July 28.

In response to the investigation, Tice stated that he is being scrutinized for his stance against antisemitism, emphasizing the importance of transparency. He claimed that a complaint from an anti-Israel group raised concerns about his failure to reference his register of interests at the beginning of a debate on UK democracy and Israeli influence.

Under rule six of the MPs’ code of conduct, members are required to openly declare any relevant interests in parliamentary proceedings and communications with public officials. This is the basis of the probe against Tice.

Previously, Farage faced a separate standards investigation for not disclosing a £5 million gift from cryptocurrency billionaire Christopher Harborne. The investigation was halted when Farage resigned as an MP but may resume if he is re-elected in the upcoming Clacton by-election.

Reform UK has maintained that the £5 million gift was a personal, unconditional contribution that did not require disclosure. The Standards Commissioner, Daniel Greenberg, is examining whether Farage violated parliamentary regulations by not declaring the substantial gift he received before entering the Commons.

Labour criticized Farage’s party for allegedly disregarding rules, while the Liberal Democrats emphasized the need for transparency in politics. Deputy leader Daisy Cooper highlighted the importance of adhering to declaration rules and pointed out the ongoing investigation into the undisclosed donation received by Farage and Reform UK from a cryptocurrency billionaire.
