A driver previously banned from driving was found behind the wheel once again, joking about having accumulated 59 penalty points when pulled over by law enforcement. Iain Ashmore, 45, was driving a white Ford Transit Connect on July 23 despite being prohibited from driving.
Dashcam footage from the police revealed Ashmore’s reaction, claiming he was unfairly targeted and expressing frustration at being stopped multiple times recently. Upon learning that Ashmore had 59 penalty points on his record, he sarcastically asked if the number had decreased.
The police officer, PC Mark Solder, was surprised by Ashmore’s response and the driver casually mentioned that he actually had 61 points. In the UK, drivers typically face a six-month driving ban if they accumulate 12 penalty points in a three-year span. When questioned about how he managed to keep his license with 61 points, Ashmore humorously replied, “Because I’m a very good person.”
Ashmore acknowledged that his insurance costs were high but dismissed them as manageable, stating they were still more affordable than insurance for truck drivers. Ashmore, from Witham St Hughes, Lincolnshire, admitted to driving the same vehicle on three separate occasions while disqualified, driving without insurance, and using a mobile phone while driving.
In a recent court hearing at Lincoln Magistrates’ Court, Ashmore received an eight-week suspended prison sentence, a driving disqualification until July 2027, and was ordered to pay court fees and a surcharge. PC Solder from Lincolnshire Police remarked on Ashmore’s disregard for the law, emphasizing the importance of responsible driving and the consequences of reckless behavior on the road.
