A man in Florida, identified as James Westervelt, has confessed to police that he found amusement in using a leaf blower to torment his infant son, a disturbing revelation that has come to light. Westervelt, aged 38, reportedly subjected his son to distress on multiple occasions before the child tragically passed away at six months old.
According to authorities, Westervelt found it entertaining to use the powerful gardening tool on his son, leading to a charge of child abuse for incidents that occurred when the child was just two months old. The use of the leaf blower caused the child significant distress and breathing difficulties.
Tragically, the unnamed boy succumbed to his injuries in August 2024 after being admitted to the hospital and placed on life support. Medical professionals determined that the baby suffered blunt force trauma, possibly inflicted by his father during the leaf blower incidents.
In a disturbing development, police revealed that they have obtained footage showing Westervelt recklessly blowing air at the boy in another incident prior to the fatal one. Consequently, Westervelt now faces a first-degree murder charge, in addition to the existing child abuse charges.
This distressing incident follows the heartbreaking case of a toddler who lost his life after being left in a scalding hot bath by his mother’s boyfriend, who neglected to seek proper medical care for the child’s severe burns. The tragic event occurred in September 2023 when Sergio Mena, the boyfriend of Samantha Garver, left one-year-old Henry Wheatley-Brown unattended in the scalding bath to pick up drugs. Mena and Garver attempted to treat the burns with over-the-counter ointment instead of seeking immediate medical attention, leading to the child’s untimely death.
