An earthquake of magnitude 5.9 has hit one of the world’s oldest major cities, causing locals to be woken from their sleep in the middle of the night. The Egyptian capital, Cairo, experienced the tremor shortly after 3 am local time, with the epicenter located in Suez, just 25 miles away from the city center. According to the German Research Centre for Geosciences, the earthquake has been revised to a magnitude of 5.4 and struck at a depth of six miles.
