Three individuals were swiftly transported to a medical facility after being attacked by a large “XL-bully type” dog. The incident occurred in Barrie Way, Bolton, prompting a prompt response from the police just before 3:30 pm.

Upon arrival at Hall i’ Th’ Wood, a historical manor house now functioning as a museum, an air ambulance landed to provide assistance. Paramedics, police dog units, and armed officers were also present at the scene. Witnesses reported that an “XL-bully type” dog was involved, which was subsequently seized.

Law enforcement officers, including armed police and a dog handler, entered the premises. The dog was safely removed from the property and placed in an animal transport vehicle. The Greater Manchester Police (GMP) confirmed that the injured parties were taken to the hospital, and no arrests had been made as investigations continued.

In related news, the government took action in 2024 to ban XL bullies due to safety concerns highlighted by Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. Incidents involving dogs had surged significantly over the past five years, with a notable portion attributed to the now-prohibited XL bully breed.

Owners of unregistered pets faced penalties, including fines and potential prosecution. The deadline for registering banned dogs was February 1, 2024, with approximately 40,000 dogs listed for disposal. Other banned breeds in the UK encompass the Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro.

Recent announcements revealed that new safety protocols would be introduced for banned dog breeds, emphasizing enhanced protection for children and strengthened regulations concerning XL Bully types. Effective November 1, 2026, owners must ensure that children under 12 are not left unsupervised near banned breed dogs, as mandated by the Certificate of Exemption requirement.
