A Ryanair passenger faced a harrowing experience when he was almost sucked out of a plane window at 20,000ft. Ljubisa Karovic, aged 61, encountered this terrifying incident during a flight from Thessaloniki in Greece to Memmingen near Munich, Germany, on July 10. His wife, Svetlana Grković, had to struggle to keep him inside the aircraft as he repeatedly lost consciousness during the emergency.
Following the ordeal, Ljubisa, a Serbian businessman, has been required to wear a neck brace for a minimum of six weeks. Despite the global attention the incident received, he stated that Ryanair has not made any direct contact with him. He mentioned that the only communication received was through emails to his son, who had booked their flights, offering to rebook and inquiring about his well-being.
Svetlana criticized the cabin crew for their lack of action during the incident, noting that they appeared frightened while other passengers tried to prevent Ljubisa from being pulled out of the plane. Medical personnel were present on the tarmac to attend to Ljubisa after the Boeing 737 made an emergency landing back in Thessaloniki.
Passengers recalled hearing a loud noise like a bursting tire before the window shattered. Ryanair has been approached for a comment on the incident. The airline’s group chief financial officer, Neil Sorahan, praised the crew for their efforts in safely returning the aircraft to Thessaloniki, ensuring that all passengers disembarked unharmed.
