Openreach, a key operator of the UK’s major broadband network, has taken further steps towards the transition by issuing “stop sell” notifications at an additional 112 telephone exchanges. This move prohibits broadband providers, including BT, Sky, Vodafone, and Plusnet, from selling or switching customers to older copper-based broadband and phone services in those specified areas.
Explaining the rationale behind this action, Openreach stated that the “Stop Sell” initiative is activated when a majority (75%) of premises connected to a particular exchange have access to ultrafast Full Fibre. Consequently, customers seeking to switch, upgrade, or modify their broadband or phone services will need to opt for a new digital service over the advanced Full Fibre network.
The recent expansion brings the total count of exchanges under the “Stop Sell” regulations to 1,572, encompassing approximately 15.4 million residences and businesses across the UK.
