A terrifying “fire tornado” has surged through a popular vacation area, leading to the evacuation of 10,000 individuals from the path of the intense blaze. The wildfire in the Saumos commune of Nouvelle-Aquitaine’s Gironde department has ravaged over 2,000 hectares of land. Authorities have cleared the tourist hub of Arcachon Bay as the fire posed a threat to residences and businesses in the vicinity.

Numerous vacationers staying at nearby campsites have been compelled to evacuate as the fire edges closer to the well-known location. Meanwhile, a wildfire near Lège-Cap-Ferret, southwest of Bordeaux, has expanded over 31 square kilometers (12 square miles), as confirmed by local officials. Despite the extensive area impacted by the fire, there have been no reports of injuries.

Sophie Brocas, the prefect of the Gironde region, disclosed that approximately 700 firefighters, including reinforcements from the Paris region, have been deployed to battle the fire. The flames have menaced the town of Lège, with the fire’s edge nearing homes on the settlement’s outskirts by just 300 meters (980 feet).
