A British woman who accused a man of rape and presented WhatsApp messages as evidence of his apology was sentenced to six years in prison in Hong Kong. Isabel Rose, 26, was found guilty of blackmail and perverting justice after a trial in March. Following the alleged incident, WhatsApp messages between Rose and the man were revealed, showing Rose accusing him of rape and him expressing regret and feeling unwell. The judge noted that Rose threatened to involve the police, which she denied during the trial, and stated that her actions were inconsistent with a genuine rape claim.
Rose met the man while teaching in Vietnam and maintained contact with him, leading to the events in Hong Kong in early 2024. The man was briefly arrested but released due to insufficient evidence, while Rose faced charges of demanding money from him and perverting justice.
