Ukraine conducted a series of drone attacks on Moscow overnight in retaliation for Russia’s recent ballistic missile strike on Kyiv. The strikes also targeted oil depots and a fuel storage facility in Russia’s Stavropol region, while Kyiv struck Russian oil tankers in the Black Sea. Additionally, Ukraine attacked electricity infrastructure sites in occupied Crimea, aiming to weaken Russia’s defense capabilities and financial resources.

Kyiv’s intelligence reports indicate that within the past 12 days, Ukraine has targeted 160 of Russia’s shadow fleet vessels, significantly impacting Moscow’s military funding. The drone attacks on Moscow involved over 400 kamikaze drones, causing fires at logistical centers, an oil depot, and residential areas. These actions followed a Russian ballistic missile assault on Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities, resulting in casualties.

The use of ballistic missiles by Moscow has intensified in response to Ukrainian strikes on Russian oil facilities, leading to fuel shortages. Former US President Donald Trump offered to provide Ukraine with Patriot defense systems to counter Russian missiles. However, the production of Patriots within Ukraine could take years, posing a challenge for Kyiv’s immediate defense needs.

The ongoing conflict between Moscow and Kyiv is escalating, with both sides striving to demonstrate their strength. Ukraine’s persistent attacks on Russian oil infrastructure have severely impacted the Kremlin’s economy and military supply chains. Despite facing devastating ballistic missile attacks, Kyiv’s defense capabilities remain limited.

Ukrainian cities, particularly Odesa, continue to face increased attacks, resulting in casualties. President Volodymyr Zelensky described the recent raid on Kyiv as one of the largest ballistic attacks since Russia’s invasion in 2022. Russia’s heightened missile launches reflect its growing desperation, surpassing its typical monthly production capacity in less than three weeks.

The situation underscores the urgency for enhanced defense measures in Ukraine amid escalating hostilities.
