A tragic incident unfolded during a family vacation in Mallorca as a three-year-old girl, Eleri Ellesmere, lost her life after being rescued from a swimming pool. The Ellesmere family, comprising parents Joe and Cerys, was staying at Villa Francisca near Pollenca when the unfortunate event occurred on June 24. Despite immediate CPR efforts by family members and subsequent medical attention at Son Espases Hospital in Palma, Eleri could not be revived and was declared deceased the next day.
Following a preliminary examination, the cause of Eleri’s death was determined to be mechanical asphyxiation due to drowning and respiratory failure. The Gwent Coroner’s Court has scheduled an adjourned hearing for April 13, 2027. Described as a beloved and beautiful child, Eleri’s passing has plunged her family, hailing from Newport, South Wales, into profound grief.
In a heart-wrenching statement, Cerys expressed the family’s anguish, stating that what was meant to be a joyous holiday turned into their worst nightmare. She recounted the valiant but ultimately unsuccessful efforts made to save Eleri’s life, emphasizing the unimaginable pain of losing their precious daughter.
