The UK is set to experience rain in 12 regions as the hot weather gives way to showers, according to the latest update from the Met Office. Showers are expected mainly in Scotland and Northern Ireland, with rain also forecast for the North East of England, Yorkshire, the Humber, the East Midlands, and East Anglia.
Met Office meteorologist Honor Criswick explained that northerly winds will bring clouds and rain to the far north of Scotland on Monday. Some rain is also likely along the east coast of England, while the south of Wales and southern England should see brighter conditions and higher temperatures reaching around 25-26°C.
Clouds and showers are anticipated in eastern Scotland, parts of north-east England, and Northern Ireland. However, the rest of the UK is expected to stay dry with sunny spells and warm temperatures due to high pressure blocking weather fronts.
Looking ahead to July 23 to August 1, the Met Office predicts a predominantly dry period with sunny spells across most of the UK, although northern and northwestern regions may experience cloudier conditions with occasional patchy rain or drizzle. Towards the weekend of July 26 and 27 and into the following week, rain is expected in northern areas, possibly reaching southern regions in a lighter and more scattered form.
The forecast becomes less certain starting July 28, but there are indications that high pressure might return, bringing another dry spell, especially in the south. Temperatures are forecast to stay near or above average, with potentially very warm conditions returning to the south at the beginning of August.
