American professional boxer Hannah Rapp, who recently vied for the WBC women’s featherweight championship, tragically passed away following a cycling accident involving a car.

Rapp, aged 26, was overtaken by a vehicle that abruptly halted and then allegedly backed into her, as reported by the Brazos County sheriff’s office.

The driver has been taken into custody and is facing charges of manslaughter. Rapp’s championship challenge occurred in June, where she was defeated by Tiara Brown in Orlando, resulting in an 8-1-1 record for Rapp.

Expressing their condolences, Most Valuable Promotions, Rapp’s promoter, stated, “Hannah was a talented athlete, a cherished member of the boxing community, and someone who commanded great respect from those who knew her well.”

The statement continued, “Our thoughts are with Hannah’s family, friends, teammates, coaches, and loved ones during this incredibly challenging period. We are thankful to have been part of her journey and will commemorate her legacy in the days to come.”

Mauricio Sulaiman, the WBC president, paid tribute, remarking, “She was not only an exceptional boxer but also an indispensable part of our boxing family.”

Tiara Brown, Rapp’s opponent in the championship fight, praised Rapp as the “best dance partner I have encountered in my professional career” and shared a touching moment when Rapp requested her autograph before the match.

Reflecting on their bout, Brown said, “It warmed my heart because we were gearing up for a battle, yet she still sought my autograph. We engaged in a remarkable fight, and it was my privilege to share the ring with her.”

Originally from Indiana, Rapp transitioned to professional boxing in 2024 while concurrently working as a fire and life safety inspector.
