After undergoing DNA tests, two men recently discovered that they were switched at birth 38 years ago, sparking accusations against a North Dakota hospital for altering the course of their lives. Kyle Bylin stumbled upon his birth family by chance when he took a DNA test as part of a Christmas gift exchange. This led to connecting with his biological aunt on a genealogy platform, ultimately revealing the truth. Jeremy Morrison, the nephew of Bylin’s aunt, confirmed the switch after his own DNA test results were conclusive.

Morrison expressed his shock when he noticed a striking resemblance between Bylin’s brother and himself, solidifying their suspicions. The men, born on the same day at Unity Medical Center in Grafton, North Dakota, filed a lawsuit claiming they were mistakenly sent home with the wrong parents.

While the hospital denies direct responsibility for the switch, Bylin, previously known as Jeremy Morrison, still possesses the hospital bracelet incorrectly identifying him as Kyle Bylin. The revelation from the DNA tests has led to two years of upheaval for the families, with emotional family meetings and contemplation of missed opportunities.

Evelyn Newton, who raised Bylin as her own, expressed feeling deprived of the life she could have had with her biological son, despite her unwavering love for him. The hospital acknowledges the switch but claims no concrete evidence implicates its staff in the mix-up.

Morrison remains attached to the family that raised him, considering Elizabeth O’Toole and Terry Morrison as his true parents. Despite the challenging moments, he recalls a mostly positive childhood filled with love and support.

Both Bylin and Morrison have since met their biological parents, describing the encounters as cordial yet awkward. They are navigating the complexities of building new relationships and adjusting to their altered realities. Attorney Tim O’Keefe pursued legal action after failed settlement negotiations with the hospital, citing emotional distress and negligence.

As they continue to grapple with the aftermath of this discovery, Morrison acknowledges the impossibility of reclaiming lost time but remains hopeful for the future. The families are striving to forge new connections and come to terms with the unforeseen truths that have reshaped their lives.
