US President Donald Trump has alleged that China had a hand in manipulating the 2020 presidential election to his disadvantage. During a recent televised address on July 16, Trump declared his immediate declassification and release of crucial intelligence exposing vulnerabilities in the election system, highlighting the risks of hacking, exploitation, and foreign meddling. According to Trump, this sensitive information, which has been concealed for years, includes personal details of US voters such as names, addresses, phone numbers, and political affiliations, enabling unauthorized activities like voter registration and other illicit operations.
Although voter information is typically public in many states, Trump insisted that China had illicitly obtained access to American voter data. The White House had hinted at groundbreaking revelations in Trump’s speech, with the President emphasizing the significance of fair elections for a functioning democracy.
Trump’s claims of electoral fraud leading to his defeat by Joe Biden in the 2020 election have been a recurring theme. Biden secured victory with 306 electoral votes and 51.3% of the popular vote, while Trump garnered 232 electoral votes and 46.8% of the popular vote. Despite Trump’s assertions, the US intelligence community, during his administration, confirmed no foreign interference in the election process, emphasizing the difficulty for external actors to manipulate election procedures undetected. This report was later disclosed by the Biden administration in March 2021.
