A prominent figure in bodybuilding suffered a sudden collapse and passed away shortly after returning home from a workout session. Mailson Araújo, a Men’s Physique athlete gearing up for a major professional contest, tragically lost his life at his residence in Alagoinhas, Brazil, on Monday evening.
Upon his return from training, the 35-year-old experienced sudden discomfort prompting him to seek assistance from his parents. Despite his mother, a nurse, administering CPR and the swift response of firefighters and emergency personnel at the scene, he could not be revived.
Mailson, who boasted a substantial following of over 32,000 Instagram fans, was declared deceased at his home. Earlier in the day, he had shared videos and images of his gym workout and physiotherapy session on social media platforms.
The exact cause of his untimely passing remains undisclosed by authorities, eliciting condolences from the bodybuilding community. A tribute expressed, “Brazil Bodybuilding News extends its deepest sympathies to his loved ones, friends, and the entire bodybuilding fraternity. May everyone find solace in this challenging time.”
Achieving professional status in 2023 after triumphing in the amateur division at the Arnold Classic South America in São Paulo, Mailson garnered commendable placements, including a third-place finish at Musclecontest Brazil 2023 and fifth in his pro debut at Bahia Pro 2023, among other top-four achievements.
Scheduled to participate in the prestigious Musclecontest Brazil 2026 event in Curitiba over the weekend, marking his comeback to the stage following a lighter competitive agenda, Mailson also operated as an online sports advisor, regularly sharing training, dietary, and recuperation advice with his followers.
His final Instagram posts were inundated with messages of grief from friends and admirers. Mailson’s remains were interred at the Jardim Paraíso da Saudade Cemetery in Alagoinhas.
