A man from Britain was fatally shot by a Vietnam War veteran who claimed that the victim was part of a deceptive group known for fraudulent activities. The victim, Salis Hanrahan, aged 20, was shot inside the residence of George Barr, 75, in Philadelphia last week. Hanrahan, who hailed from Essex and had an Irish traveler heritage, was working on Barr’s property when the shooting occurred.
Despite being shot in the chest, Hanrahan managed to flee the house but collapsed outside where he succumbed to his injuries shortly afterward. It was reported that Hanrahan was working in the United States unlawfully and was associated with a group referred to as “The Traveling Conman Fraud Group,” which includes British and Irish individuals engaged in scamming people by overcharging for construction work that is never completed.
The FBI has identified this group as a criminal gang. Hanrahan’s connection to organized crime and whether Barr was specifically targeted remain undisclosed at this time. Hanrahan’s wife, Roseann, expressed her love for him on social media, sharing a photo of the couple. He leaves behind his wife and a daughter.
Witnesses stated that contractors were present outside Barr’s home when he discharged shots inside the residence during the incident. Barr, a retired firefighter and Vietnam War veteran, was subsequently charged with murder, possession of a weapon, and endangering another person. Investigations into the shooting are ongoing.
The Department of Homeland Security confirmed that Hanrahan was an illegal immigrant from the UK, having entered the US unlawfully due to his affiliation with the criminal organization. Authorities noted that there was no prior encounter with Hanrahan by immigration enforcement agencies. Neighbors expressed shock over the incident, emphasizing that Barr was known as a friendly and active member of the community.
