A 79-year-old British cruise passenger passed away after being discovered unconscious on the ship’s deck. The incident occurred on Tuesday while the cruise ship was docked in Chania on the northwest coast of Crete.
Despite immediate medical attention, the man was pronounced dead. He was initially found unconscious on the ship’s deck in the morning, according to a statement from the Hellenic Coast Guard.
Following the discovery, he was promptly moved to the ship’s medical clinic for initial treatment before being transferred to a private medical facility in Chania via ambulance. An investigation has been initiated to determine the circumstances surrounding the passenger’s death.
Chania Port Authority has ordered a post-mortem examination as part of the ongoing investigation. Reports from ERT News indicate that the British individual was noticed by fellow passengers on the cruise ship.
