Former Conservative Member of Parliament, Patrick Spencer, was accused of inappropriate behavior at London’s Groucho club by two women, with one describing him as a persistent nuisance before he allegedly groped their breasts. The incidents occurred during a night out at the exclusive Soho venue in August 2023.
One of the women testified at Southwark Crown Court that she was taken aback when Spencer, who had been trying to engage her in conversation and buy her a drink, suddenly grabbed her breasts without consent. The second woman stated that Spencer forcefully cupped her breasts from behind, causing her to freeze momentarily before pushing his hands away.
During her testimony, the first woman recounted how Spencer touched her breasts as she was leaving the bar, feeling shocked and wanting to distance herself from him. She described him as bothersome. Spencer, who was later stripped of his Conservative Party membership following the charges, denies any wrongdoing and refutes the allegations made by the two women.
The court heard how one of the women, accompanied by her husband, encountered Spencer at the bar, where he persistently interacted with her, making her uncomfortable with personal inquiries. Despite her refusal, Spencer continued to pressure her to try a drink he had bought, further intruding on her personal space.
Both women detailed feeling uncomfortable and violated by Spencer’s actions, with one disclosing the incident to another woman present. Video evidence was presented during the trial, showing Spencer’s interactions with the women and his subsequent gestures after the alleged assaults.
Spencer, also known as Michael Patrick Spencer, a newly elected Conservative MP, faces charges of sexual assault and stands firm in denying the accusations against him. The trial is ongoing as the court assesses the evidence and testimonies presented in the case.
