Woman Dies After Swimming at Devil’s Point, Plymouth

A tragic incident occurred as a woman passed away following a swimming outing in the waters near Plymouth. The woman encountered a medical emergency after swimming at Devil’s Point in Plymouth, situated at the eastern end where the River Tamar meets the English Channel. Devon and Cornwall Police received a distress call at approximately 4:50 pm on Saturday, July 11, reporting the woman’s health issue after swimming.

Emergency services, including two ground ambulances and an air ambulance, responded promptly to the scene. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, the woman, aged in her 60s and believed to be a local resident, was declared deceased. The authorities confirmed that the incident is not considered suspicious, and her family has been notified of the unfortunate event.

A representative from Devon and Cornwall Police stated that they were alerted to the situation at Devil’s Point, Plymouth, around 4:50 pm on Saturday, July 11, where the woman was found in distress after swimming. The spokesperson also confirmed that the woman’s next of kin has been informed.

The South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) reported their involvement in the incident at 4:34 pm on the same day, dispatching two land ambulances, an air ambulance, and an operations officer to the scene.
