Investigators looking into Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor are preparing to journey to the United States soon to speak with Virginia Giuffre’s family, as per reports.
According to The Times newspaper, detectives from Thames Valley Police (TVP) will meet with Sky and Amanda Roberts, Ms. Giuffre’s brother and sister-in-law. In May, it was revealed that the investigation into Andrew would encompass allegations of sexual misconduct as part of their examination into possible offenses related to public office.
The legal definition of the offense is broad and includes various behaviors such as sharing confidential financial data, financial misconduct, neglect of duty, and sexual impropriety. It also covers corruption, improper interference, conflicts of interest, obstruction of justice, dishonesty, fraudulent actions, and misconduct for personal gain.
There is a concern among TVP detectives that the public may think their focus is solely on accusations that the former prince disclosed information while serving as a trade envoy, whereas the scope of the investigation encompasses a wider range of legal terms related to the offense.
Andrew held the position of the UK’s special representative for international trade and investment from 2001 to 2011, resigning amidst controversy surrounding his association with sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Although he did not receive a salary for his work promoting British business interests globally and domestically, criticisms were directed at the substantial yearly expenses and travel costs incurred.
In the same year he stepped down, Andrew was photographed with his main accuser, Ms. Giuffre, who claimed she was trafficked to him at the residence of convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell. Andrew settled a civil lawsuit in the US in 2022 by paying Ms. Giuffre, a woman he denies ever meeting, a significant sum.
The former prince has consistently refuted any allegations of misconduct related to his connections with Epstein.
On February 19, Andrew was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office and subjected to questioning before being released pending further investigation. Searches were conducted at his former residences in Windsor and Norfolk.
Investigators are currently reviewing the evidence gathered during the operation.
A spokesperson for TVP stated, “Our investigation into misconduct in public office is ongoing. While we cannot provide specifics on the investigation, we are pursuing all reasonable leads.”
