A young child, who was reportedly thrown into a crocodile enclosure, has recently undergone his sixth surgery and skin grafts, according to his parents. The three-year-old remains in stable condition at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge, where he has been receiving treatment for the past three weeks. Despite still experiencing limited movement in his fingers, his parents expressed joy over seeing him smile once more.

In a recent update shared on GoFundMe, the child’s parents announced that the latest surgery, conducted successfully, included skin grafts on his left arm. The medical team confirmed the positive progress of the grafts and the healing process of his external wounds. The family expressed gratitude towards the hospital staff for their efforts in making the child happy, including dressing up as his favorite superheroes.

The incident took place at Johnsons of Old Hurst, near Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, on June 18, resulting in the child sustaining a broken arm and pelvis. The owners of the zoo, Andy and Tracey Johnson, along with their son Edward, bravely intervened to rescue the child from the crocodile pit.

Following the incident, a 30-year-old man from Norfolk was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, but was later released on bail due to being deemed unfit for questioning. The man, reported to have severe learning difficulties, was under the supervision of carers when he allegedly threw the child over a barrier into the enclosure.

An online fundraising campaign was initiated to aid the child’s recovery, raising over £62,000 to support his physical and psychological rehabilitation. The child’s parents expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support received, acknowledging the generosity of donors and the uplifting gestures, such as a superhero costume sent by a young girl and her grandmother.

While celebrating the progress made, the parents acknowledged the challenges ahead, particularly concerning nerve and tendon damage that may impact the child’s movement. They emphasized the uncertainty surrounding the recovery timeline, highlighting the importance of continued support and care throughout the journey.

Addenbrooke’s Hospital, where the child is undergoing treatment, is under investigation after reports that 40 staff members accessed the child’s medical records. Cambridge University Hospitals has initiated an internal review and is cooperating with the Information Commissioner’s Office to ensure compliance regarding the access to the child’s confidential information.
