The US President made these fresh threats against Iran from the Nato summit in Turkey following recent exchanges of fire. Iran was reportedly targeted around 85 times in a significant US bombing operation, hitting locations such as Qeshm island, Bandar Abbas port, and Sirik, resulting in injuries to individuals.
In response, Iran claimed to have targeted a US Navy headquarters and an air base in Kuwait. Furthermore, Iran’s forces attacked three oil and gas tankers in the Strait of Hormuz, emphasizing their control over the waterway’s traffic flow. Trump mentioned that Iran had launched drones and a missile at ships in the Strait, leading to a retaliatory strike from the US.
Additionally, Trump mentioned giving Tehran permission for a funeral procession for Ayatollah Khamenei, which Iran disregarded by continuing attacks. Despite Trump’s tough stance, one British intelligence analyst noted a significant escalation in the attacks against Iran, suggesting a shift in tactics.
Iran retaliated by threatening to tighten its grip on global oil trade passing through the Strait of Hormuz if the US launched further attacks. Trump also used the Nato summit to criticize allies for not supporting his conflict with Iran and issued trade sanctions against Spain over defense spending disagreements.
