In recently disclosed state records, it has been revealed that the mother of 16 children rescued from a dire living situation similar to that of ‘feral animals’ had previously given birth to conjoined twins. The children, ranging from 18 months to 18 years old, were found in deplorable conditions in a deteriorating property, described as worse than those for livestock.
Authorities in the United States have labeled the case as ‘intrafamily,’ implying potential incestuous relationships leading to the birth of some of the children. Four adults, identified as Gary Siders Jr, Gary Siders Sr, Christina Siders, and Elizabeth Siders, are facing criminal charges as the alleged caregivers responsible for causing severe physical harm to the children.
A tragic incident uncovered in the investigation showed that Elizabeth Siders had given birth to conjoined twins, Bailey Lee and Faith Lee Siders, who were born with a rare condition known as thoracopagus. The twins passed away shortly after birth. The distressing scene encountered by officers revealed the children crammed into a tiny, filthy space covered in waste, enduring unimaginable conditions for four years.
Ohio Attorney General Andy Wilson denounced the conditions as “pure evil,” emphasizing the horrific circumstances the children endured. He expressed shock at the children’s state, likening them to feral animals and stressing the urgent need to address their physical and psychological well-being.
The suspects, including two parents and two grandparents, are each facing 17 counts of endangering children. The Vinton County Sheriff expressed disbelief at the conditions, remarking that the livestock on the property were better cared for than the children. Seven children were hospitalized, with two requiring emergency airlift.
As the investigation unfolds, authorities are prioritizing the children’s immediate medical needs while acknowledging the deep emotional trauma they have suffered. Despite the lack of details on family connections, officials confirmed that the case did not involve human trafficking. The suspects, who were found to have been constantly relocating to avoid detection, appeared in court and are being held on bail.
