The image, depicting flames and smoke from the Shahran oil depot in Tehran on June 15, 2025, was actually from a previous Israeli assault. Trump’s post on Truth Social linked the strike to Iran’s alleged bombing of ships, warning of further action if such incidents recurred.
Following the post, a news outlet corrected the misinformation, clarifying that the image was not recent. The US initiated new strikes on Iran after ships were targeted in the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial waterway for global oil trade. Tensions escalated from earlier joint US-Israeli attacks on Iranian sites in February, leading to ongoing conflict in the region.
Despite efforts to reach a peace agreement, a recent confrontation has disrupted progress. An MoU signed by the US and Iran aimed to reopen the vital Strait of Hormuz and resolve disputes over Iran’s nuclear program.
