Weather models indicate that the ongoing heatwave in the UK, with temperatures exceeding 30C, is expected to persist for over two weeks. The GFS weather model projects daily temperatures above 30C until July 22, extending the heatwave for at least another 15 days.

Forecasts suggest temperatures could soar above 35C on multiple days leading up to July 22, with peak temperatures of 36C anticipated in parts of western England this week. Subsequently, central and southern regions are likely to reach at least 32C.

The GFS model predicts a continuation of high temperatures, with another spell of highs around 36C in western England by the following week. Some areas in Wales and southern England might experience temperatures reaching 35C.

The upcoming weekend is expected to bring widespread hot weather, with northern England also seeing temperatures surpassing 30C. Eastern England could potentially reach highs of 37C, potentially marking the hottest day of this heatwave.

Temperature anomaly maps illustrate that the UK is expected to experience significantly above-average temperatures during this period. According to the GFS model, 23 counties in England and Wales could witness temperatures of 35C or higher over the next 15 days.

The Met Office anticipates that this week’s temperatures may not reach the levels observed during the June heatwave. Nevertheless, the agency forecasts highs of 35C in some regions.

Projected temperatures for southern UK regions include highs around 32C today, increasing to 33C tomorrow and peaking at 34C on Thursday, with isolated locations potentially hitting 35C by Friday and Saturday.

Met Office Deputy Chief Forecaster Steven Keates noted that while nighttime temperatures may not be as elevated as in June, some urban areas could remain in the high teens overnight. The heat is expected to extend across England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland, with peak temperatures likely in the upper 20s in the latter two regions. Keates advised the public to take necessary precautions against high temperatures and sun exposure.
