Eight individuals were successfully rescued following a seaplane crash into a river, marking the second such incident in the past month.
The privately-owned Quest Kodiak 100 aircraft plunged into New York City’s East River on Sunday, June 5, around midday while heading towards the seaplane terminal on the city’s east side. The plane had departed from The Hamptons, a prestigious area on Long Island, and was observed partially submerged, with one wing underwater.
Video footage depicted the rescue operation involving at least five vessels and another seaplane in the vicinity of Brooklyn and Manhattan.
Two passengers sustained minor injuries during the mishap, but all occupants were successfully retrieved, and the seaplane was later towed to the docks.
This incident involving the Kodiak 100 plane represents the second seaplane rescue in the East River within a month, following a previous occurrence where a plane was hit by a wave during take-off near the Throgs Neck Bridge in Queens.
Authorities mentioned that an ongoing investigation into the crash is being conducted by law enforcement.
