Cristiano Ronaldo has officially announced that the upcoming World Cup in 2026 will mark his final appearance representing Portugal on the global stage. At 41 years old, Ronaldo acknowledged that this tournament will be his swan song, ending speculations about his participation in the 2030 edition of the prestigious competition.

During a press conference leading up to Portugal’s round of 16 match against Spain, Ronaldo expressed his desire to savor every moment of his last World Cup experience, emphasizing that he hopes it won’t be his final game in the tournament. This declaration has left football fans around the world disheartened as they have enjoyed watching Ronaldo play for his nation since his debut in 2003.

Despite facing criticism for a slow start in the tournament, Ronaldo made history by becoming the first player to score in six different World Cup editions. His outstanding performance included a remarkable two-goal display against Uzbekistan, contributing to Portugal’s 5-0 victory in the Group K encounter.

Ronaldo’s exceptional goal-scoring record in World Cup matches now stands at 10, surpassing Eusebio’s national record of nine set in 1966. Additionally, Ronaldo secured the second position as one of the oldest players to score in the competition, with Cameroon’s Roger Milla being the only player ahead of him in age at the time of his last World Cup goal.

As Portugal prepares for a crucial round of 16 match against Spain in Dallas, Texas, the nation aims to make history by advancing further in the tournament. Despite past achievements, Portugal has yet to secure a World Cup title, with their best result being a third-place finish in 1966.

Ronaldo’s quest for the coveted World Cup trophy continues as Portugal faces tough competition in their pursuit of glory. The upcoming matches against formidable opponents like Spain, USA, Belgium, France, and others will test Portugal’s resolve as they strive to reach the pinnacle of international football. Whether Ronaldo will achieve his long-awaited World Cup triumph remains uncertain, but fans eagerly anticipate his performance in the remaining matches of the tournament.
