The BBC issued an apology to viewers due to a technical fault that caused the scoreboard to disappear during Novak Djokovic’s match against Arthur Rinderknech at Wimbledon. The sudden disappearance of the scoreboard led to BBC cameras having to rely on the physical scoreboard inside Centre Court. Lead commentator Andrew Cotter acknowledged the issue and mentioned they were working on fixing it.

Viewers were surprised to see Djokovic trailing 3-0 in the third set after comfortably winning the first two sets. During the match, Djokovic visibly struggled and even hit himself on the leg multiple times during a changeover. Despite his initial setbacks, Djokovic managed to turn the game around and eventually won the match 3-1.

The incident added to the criticism the BBC had faced during the tournament, including complaints about biased coverage. While the BBC was not directly responsible for the scoreboard malfunction, it affected the overall viewing experience for tennis fans. The continuous channel-switching between BBC1, BBC2, and iPlayer frustrated many viewers.

Furthermore, the BBC’s decision to shift BBC1 coverage away from Wimbledon to broadcast the World Cup match between England and DR Congo caused confusion among viewers. Many were caught off guard by the sudden change in programming schedule.
