Following a tragic incident, a woman, aged 72, was found guilty of murdering her husband of 27 years, questioning the presence of police by asking if they suspected her of murder. She claimed her husband, aged 84, had accidentally fallen on a knife while carrying her lunch tray into the kitchen at their residence in Prestwich, Manchester.

Police bodycam footage captured the woman, Daryl Berman, covered in blood, calmly asking why she felt composed despite the situation. Initially, her story of her husband’s accidental fall was accepted, but suspicions arose when further examination revealed the injury to be non-accidental.

The deceased, a retired joiner, had defensive wounds consistent with self-defense. Despite efforts by paramedics, he could not be saved. The defendant, appearing calm and collected, was later convicted of murder by a Manchester court.

During sentencing, the judge stated that the defendant’s actions indicated intent to cause serious harm rather than to kill. The tragic incident unfolded in the backdrop of what seemed like a happy and loving marriage spanning decades, with no apparent issues to outsiders.

Family members expressed deep sorrow and disbelief over the loss, emphasizing the impact on their lives. The defendant, after a retrial, showed no visible reaction as she was led away to begin her life sentence.

Reflecting on the case, Detective Inspector Alex Wilkinson highlighted the tragic outcome of a situation where trust was betrayed, leading to a life lost. Despite attempts to portray the incident as an accident, forensic evidence exposed the truth, resulting in the defendant’s conviction for murder.

As the family continues to grapple with the aftermath, the hope is that the sentence brings a sense of closure and justice, allowing them to begin the process of healing and moving forward.
