A man and his daughter have been sentenced to jail for throwing, beating, and stabbing the daughter’s lover after a dispute over money owed to the man’s on-off partner. John McGinley, 58, and Stacey McGinley, 39, initiated a violent assault on Duncan Craig at a residence in Glasgow, resulting in him being pushed from a first-floor window, stripped, battered, choked, and stabbed.
Following the attack, a woman present at the scene managed to seek help for Mr. Craig, leading to his rescue by authorities. Both John and Stacey McGinley, known for their history of violence, confessed to the crimes at the High Court in Glasgow. John received a seven-and-a-half-year sentence, while Stacey was sentenced to six-and-a-half years.
During the sentencing, Lord Mulholland condemned their actions, highlighting the severity of the assault and the potential for a murder charge. The incident occurred on February 15, 2025, when tensions escalated over a debt owed by Mr. Craig to Stacey, leading to a violent outburst resulting in Mr. Craig being pushed out of a window and subjected to prolonged physical abuse.
The prosecution detailed the horrifying ordeal endured by Mr. Craig, including multiple assaults, stripping of clothes, choking, head injuries, and various forms of physical and psychological torment by the McGinleys. John McGinley pleaded guilty to attempted murder, while Stacey admitted to severely injuring, disfiguring, and endangering Mr. Craig’s life. The duo also faced charges of abduction and attempted extortion. Both individuals have been permanently prohibited from contacting or approaching the victim.
