A 13-year-old boy sustained severe injuries after a shark bit him on the thigh while fishing on a boat in the United States. Witnesses reported the incident, and emergency services responded swiftly in McIntosh County, Georgia.
The shark attack occurred near Ossabaw Island, approximately 20 miles south of Savannah, on a Wednesday afternoon. The Coast Guard confirmed that the victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Upon docking the boat, the teenager’s father urgently sought medical help for his son. The boy was fishing with his father and two others when the shark attacked and bit his thigh.
A witness, Terry Tatum, recounted observing the traumatic event unfold as the boat approached. According to Tatum, the teenagers had caught a large shark, which bit the young man’s thigh while they were trying to release it. Immediate first aid was provided to the injured teen.
McIntosh County EMS volunteer BJ Comer also rushed to the scene to assist. She retrieved a tourniquet from her car and, along with a coworker, helped transfer the patient off the boat for transportation by EMS.
